About Us

Established in 2011, the online Museum of Portuguese Jewish History is the only Museum in the world dedicated exclusively to exploring and interpreting the Portuguese Jewish experience.

By focusing on the particular experiences of one ethnic group and its relationship with the larger world, the Museum illuminates ethnicity in Portuguese life. Its location at the epicenter of Jewish Sephardim during the age of discovery is ideal for an institution that celebrates the contributions and survival of the Jewish people during one of the world’s most important periods in history.

Mission Statement

The Museum of Portuguese Jewish History’s mission is to present educational programs and experiences that preserve, explore and celebrate the history of Jews in Portugal. Our purpose is to connect Jews more closely to their heritage and to inspire in people of all backgrounds a greater appreciation for the diversity of the Portuguese Jewish experience.
